YouthRewired is a youth-led initiative addressing teen mental health through digital literacy and early support.
We create accessible tools, campaigns, and education that help teens recognize when something’s wrong, know what to do, and support each other—especially in a culture wired for distraction and delay.
What We Do

Education for Action
Policy Advocacy
Narrative Power
We build early intervention tools that actually reflect teen behavior.
From digital detox guides to peer support toolkits, our educational resources are built around how teens live: online, overstimulated, and often unsure when to ask for help. We design media, programs, and self-checks that make recognition and response feel possible before things escalate.
We turn lived experience into system-level change.
We research how teens engage with their mental health and translate those insights into policy recommendations, school board resolutions, and youth-centered reform efforts. Our goal is to make mental health literacy and early support a public health priority designed with students, not just for them.
We reshape how mental health is talked about by letting teens lead the conversation.
Through blog posts, podcast episodes, and commentary, we’re building a platform where young people name what’s missing, challenge stigma, and tell the truth about how it feels to not know when something’s wrong. We believe changing the language around mental health can change everything else.
Why it Matters?
Teen mental health isn’t being ignored. It’s being misread.
We scroll. We cope. We sink deeper. But no one explains what mental strain looks like in a digital world. When constant stimulation feels normal, early warning signs are easy to miss.
50.4% of U.S. teenagers ages 12–17 had 4 hours or more of daily screen time.
Center for Disease Control and Prevention
Children and adolescents who spend more than 3 hours a day on social media face double the risk of mental health problems, including symptoms of depression and anxiety
US Department of Health and Human Services
Only 58.5% of U.S. teens always or usually receive the social and emotional support they need

About Me
My name is Sivaank
Hi there! I'm Sivaank Pothukoochi, and like many young people today, I've seen firsthand how our digital lives can subtly reshape our attention and impact our well-being. My journey into understanding this complex relationship truly began from a place of curiosity and concern, growing into a deep passion for helping my peers.
I've always been fascinated by how things work, especially in the realms of Health Sciences, Neuroscience, Bioinformatics, and Mental Health. This curiosity led me to incredible experiences, like shadowing physicians at places like UTSW and Baylor University Medical Center, and even delving into complex research at NASA GeneLab for High Schools, where I explored how environments affect our genes. My independent work on CRISPR-AI also taught me a lot about innovative problem-solving.
Through these experiences, I've realized that the challenges we face with social media aren't just about 'using our phones too much.' They're about how our brains are being 'rewired' by design, and how we can consciously 'rewire' them back.
YouthRewired is my commitment to teen's digital habit – to share practical tools, and to offer a space where teens can learn to navigate the digital world mindfully.
I believe teens can take control of their digital lives and unlock their incredible potential.

My Novel: A Reflection on Being Seen in a World of Control
Beyond the digital noise, unseen forces can shape our stories. In my upcoming novel, Some Disappear to Escape. Others are Erased. I delve into a haunting mystery where a new student uncovers erased records, redacted files, and a quiet machinery of control that determines who is seen and who vanishes.
The tricky world of social media always grabs teen attention, and it can feel a lot like a hidden system trying to make a teen disappear.
My novel shows how secret forces decide who gets noticed and who vanishes; the digital world can quietly change who teens are.
My Journey & Impact
My commitment to digital well-being for teens isn't just a passion; it's something I actively work on every day through various initiatives

Championing Mental Health in Schools
As a Student Representative on the Coppell ISD Mental Health Action Plan Committee (2023–2024), I had the opportunity to help propose and implement impactful initiatives like an annual district-wide Mental Health Fair and new peer support campaigns.

Leading with Purpose
Being ranked #17 out of over 100,000 U.S. debaters and leading Team Texas to 3rd place internationally showed me the power of focused dedication.

Promoting Preparedness & Care
Being a ReadyTeens Ambassador for the American Red Cross (2023–Present) allowed me to train over 50 youth in psychological first aid – a crucial skill in navigating difficult times.

Recognized Dedication
My efforts have been recognized with the Presidential Volunteer Service Award – Gold and the Barbara James Service Award – Bronze, which truly motivate me to keep pushing forward.

Serving My Community
My role as Operations Manager for the Texas Indo-American Physicians Society (TIPS) Free Clinic (2024–Present) has given me a deep appreciation for community health and efficient service.

Academic Foundations
As a National Merit Semifinalist (anticipated 2025) and an AP Scholar with Distinction, I believe a strong academic foundation is key to tackling complex challenges like digital well-being.

My Mission
My mission with YouthRewired is very important to me. I want to help teens like me learn to use technology in a healthier, more thoughtful way.
I dream of a future where we can focus better, have strong minds, and make truly real connections with others.

My Research Projects
1 / Exploring Life Beyond Earth
As one of just 27 students selected from over 1000+ applicants for the NASA GeneLab for High Schools (GL4HS)
2 / Contributing to Advanced Neuroscience
Contributor to the NASA Open Science Data Repository Working Groups (2024–Present), focusing on complex studies like tunneling nanotubes and TLR4 signaling in Alzheimer’s under spaceflight conditions.
3 / Pioneering AI in Health
Authored 4000+ word research paper on connection between CRISPR and AI to combat antimicrobial resistance. Successfully published in the JAAS@STEM Journal.
4 / Presented at International Conference
Presented my findings on synaptic vesicle endocytosis under hypergravity conditions at the American Society for Gravitational & Space Research Conference (ASGSR) in Puerto Rico in December 2024.
5 / Upcoming Publications
Currently co-authoring a NASA study titled Exploring the Effects of Hypergravity on Synaptic Transmission and Bulk Synaptic Vesicle Endocytosis, which is pending publication in Journal of Gravitational and Space Research (GSR).
